Neat Story:
my companion and i were doing pretty well, talking about prophets and the restoration, sharing scriptures and bearing testimony, doing great until... they asked a question. we stared at them, then at eachother, then back at them, then glanced over at the camera.... we cleared our throughts and asked them to repeat the question, the second time they threw in some hand motions so we knew she was asking how to pray. which might i had we have not been tuaght how to answer in portuguese... i figured i would take a stab at it. i told them it was just like talking with our heavenly father and that we could talk about anything, they nodded akwardly and i told them we were going to show them later in the lesson, they accepted that and we moved on. we got our lesson back up to speed and were banging on all cylinders until they asked us another question. how can do we get an answer to our prayers?.... the previously stated awkwardness insued along with a long silent pause... more hand motions let us know they wanted to know if it was a feeling they would get... we both burst out "sim" wich is portuguese for yes, fallowed by an array of "ótimo"s (portuguese for great) and "muito boms"s (portuguese for very good) we wrapped up our lesson and left the room. our instructor was watching our tape live and came out of the viewing room laughing just as soon as we got out. he used the word "smooth" to describe how it whent, and said that we did very very well. the people we tuaght said well done and then asked how long we had been in the mtc, we said about for weeks and then they said that it was good for only 4 weeks, i assume this meant that the preavious "very good" was simply out of politeness. this past week we have practiced with a lot of brazilians. it sooo much fun. we teach our lesson and they just nod and say good job, then they do theres and i swear they are speaking another language, they just talk so increadibly fast, and everything is slurred together. but when we are done practicing we talk to them about where they live and if they know anything about our mission, one of them asked me what kind of music i liked and stuff like that.i am not sure if i told you but our brazilian roomates left a couple weeks ago, they nly stay for three weeks, and we all miss them. they were really cool, really fun and every night was an adventure trying to communticate. one of them is not in interlagos and we ran into him at the tmple today. interlagos missions get to go to the temple every three months.it wsa our first time in the sao paulo temple, its right ine the middle of the city so there are huge skyscrapers everywhere, and it looks a tad out of place, but the inside is really really cool.its wierd to think i only have a few more weeks here before i am out. we ran into other elders from interlagos and they said it was the best mission.
