Neat Story:
I was talking to one of my
teachers...He is a native spanish speaker and he said that I knew a lot and
should go see if I could test and move up to intermediate....So I did, and
Hermano Reed, who is in charge of the intermediate and advanced classes took to
the intermediate district that came in on Wedenesday...As we were walking, we
spoke in Spanish and he said that I had a better accent then most of the
intermediates and he recommended that I move up...So I spent last weekend with
the intermediate district to see how I would do...I learned a lot more there,
then I did with my other district, so I am now an intermediate spanish student.
. The
teachers speak spanish the whole time unless they are exlplaining a gospel
principle. Before I moved up, the intermediate district told me they wanted me
up there. Anyways, I told them I would as long as they were very patient
with my inablility to speak or understand very well...My teachers said they
would help me and that I would be fine....Well I have learned a lot, but I have
also been near tears every day. I am so overwhelmed with having to change
districts, companions, and even having to repack and move. Yesterday,
Hermano Johnston-my teacher-he reminds me of Adam-had us teach the first lesson
to each other in Spanish. Since me and my companions are in a threesome, he told
me to teach him...well, I was so nervous and frustrated that I was almost
crying, and of course he was soooo kind and helpful. After, he asked me to bare
my testimony to him in Spanish about the Book of Mormon...I did and then he
stood in front of the class and told them how much it touched him and how strong
the spirit was and he started getting teary-eyed, so of course that pushed me
over the edge...By the time I went home last night, I was so homesick and
needing to talk to my family that I just lost and cried to the girls that I am
sharing a room with now. Luckily today is Pday and we went to the temple first
thing this morning. I felt the spirit so strongly and I was reminded how when
you guys dropped me off they said that we were walking out of the arms of our
family into the arms of the Savior. How true that is! I saw Sestra Gapinski at
the temple and it was nice to get a hug from someone from home.
I have't
been tooooo homesick, because I have called Rexburg my home for the last 2 years
and the Spirit that is felt here is just like the spirit of Rick's at
BYU-Idaho...only I think it is more constant just because there is NOTHING
worldly about this place. I am soooo excited because I can already feel myself
growing sooooooo much! Even though I have to learn a new language, at least I
have a testimony and a knowledge of what I will be teaching the people of
Argentina.
My other teacher-Hermano
Hernandez thinks that's all I do is laugh...haha...however I have yet to break
out in laughter during a prayer...quite an accomplishment if I do say so myself.
