Boiled fat, yum. I bet it had a horrible after taste. If it makes you feel better I ones ate fish eyes. Willingly, well it was a dare. And when I was first learning how to cook, well pig snout probably would have been good. I’m a lot better now. Hmmm. I live in St. Louise, and am just getting my permit, never had a reason to drive then I moved. I always just walked. Well, I guess I can find it in my hart to write you, and you can e-mail me. just So you know; I tease a lot and you will get no mercy. But I try not to be tooo mean. Talk later.

Dear Brother and Sister Haub, Elder Haub has arrived! We picked him up at the Riga Airport this afternoon and took him to the mission office for an orientation session. Then we brought him to the mission home for more orientation, dinner, and a good night’s rest. His new companion will be Elder Flory, one of our finest missionaries. Elder Flory will teach him about the culture, how to share the Gospel, and will help him gain proficiency in the language. They will be serving in Riga Center, Latvia. Elder Haub is tired due to his long plane ride and jet lag, but he will be back to normal soon! We urge you to continue to remember him in your prayers and to send him lots of newsy letters. We love him and are thrilled to have him here, serving the Lord in the Mighty Baltic Mission! Sincerely, President and Sister Watterson

Dear Gimene (family), Well,” I made it through the rain" (Barry Manilow). You won't believe how much of a battle the first week was. I am actually proud of myself for the way I handled my attitude through it all. The words, "It will be OK" have never been so beautiful. Ha-Ha As well as, "You'll do fine." The first week is extremely busy and overwhelming. It's really a mind game of endurance and exercising faith. This language is really coming along well, but the first 2 days it was so hard to stay happy and determined because Satan makes you feel like you're nothing and helpless. You sit there all day and stress about having to teach the first lesson in Latvian on Nov. 7th. They tell us to memorize tons of scriptures as well as learn the language. In between all that, we had meeting after meeting and I kept thinking, "How is this going to be possible... There is no way I can learn this language so fast." It's true though, I can't...but through the spirit and faith, I WILL, and now that a week has gone by since these thoughts, me and my companion are actually almost able to speak a conversation, we can pray, bear testimony and talk about surroundings. It's so amazing what the Lord has done to my mind. My teacher is always like, "We ask you to do more than you are able to, but you are missionaries, so the Lord will make it possible." Basically, the first 2 days were extremely hard because I was being asked to do more than is possible for a human being to do, but now it's a week later and I'm so happy, smiley and feel so good. My knowledge of the language is probably better than 3 months of public school Spanish. 1 hour of class here is about a weeks worth of education. So as you read this, I hope you don't think I'm struggling. I love this challenge! I think it says a lot about me that I've made it through the week the way I did. I guess I'm proud of myself in a humble way. I know how much the Lord is blessing me to stay focused and remember things. OK...here is where the thoughts, "I can see how people quit the MTC come from." I thought that a lot. So Satan made us all feel worthless in the beginning, overwhelmed with the expectations of a language and doctrine and schedule. But on top of that...ha-ha (mom you're gonna go, "eye, yi yi") ha-ha, the first gym class on Saturday I broke 2 ribs. I played basketball and won the game, but I slammed into the wall after a lay up and popped 2 ribs out of place. VERY PAINFUL!! I went to the MTC doctor on Monday and he tried 4 different ways to pop them back in place and he failed. ha-ha. I wanted to cry. jk He said he would send me to a Chiropractor that day, but I told him to schedule it for Wednesday, which is P-Day (today) If I miss class I would be so far behind. So... in about 2 hours, me and my comp Elder Black go to the Chiropractor. I feel like right now I am showing the Lord he can trust me with responsibility. I'm really happy right now. Elder Uchdorf of the 12 apostles spoke last night and uplifted everybody. I dunno... I guess the MTC or a mission really is the hardest thing you'll ever do, and the best, happiest time. Every time I go to a meeting with speakers I almost cry because the spirit is so strong. I feel so close to the Lord and taken under his wing in a sense. I love the experience so far and also I am dead tired emotionally and physically. It's great. ha-ha. I have honestly never felt so pure and happy though. I hope I can maintain this feeling forever. Sitting in class all day and getting no sleep because the ribs, has been pretty horrible. It actually doesn't hurt too terribly bad but it hurts to breath deep or sometimes the muscles spasm in the morning because it's freezing outside. In 2 hours they'll be back to normal and I'll be playing basketball again. I played one handed yesterday for one game. We lost. I made 2 shots though! My District President is awesome. I love him; he's one of the greatest men I've ever met. He kinda looks like George Bush. ha-ha, Well, I learned that my companion and I will be 2 of 20 Latvian speakers in the mission. Class consists of him and I and the teacher. The teacher served there 4 years ago. The missionaries that go there are very few. Nobody has been sent there for about 3 months. A lot of people call our District the "LitLats". Elder Black and I are the Latvians and Elders Vigners and Elder Gardner are the Lithuanian missionaries. 2 different languages, but still the same mission. We have 1 sister that is also going to Lithuania. She is from Latvia, but on the east side where it's pure Russian speaking. She is really sweet and quiet. ha-ha, So there are 5 of us in our District. 3 Liths and 2 Lats. Me and Elder Black taught our first English 40 minute lesson and the teacher said that we were very advanced for only 1 week of being here. The speakers always stress that where missionaries are called, they are meant to be. This language is really easy for me to read and speak. Elder Vigners say's I'm really good at pronouncing everything. I know that I'm supposed to go here and Vigners and I have kinda been joking, but hoping that I'll convert his family. How cool would that be? Not to be prideful or anything, but I know the Lord expects a lot from me. "Much is given, much is required." I say this because everybody, as in the teacher and District President, tell us this mission is for the elite. It's going to be hard, but I'll do it. There is like 2200 missionaries here at the MTC, and Elder Black and I are the only 2 going to Latvia. All the missions have at least 4-6 in a classroom. The second day of class we had no teachers at all, but we learned how to say a few things about the nature of God. Instead of messing around like most the Elders in this place do, we were teaching each other. Our teacher Bro. Wise had a baby so he left really early to attend to his wife. As humbly as I can, I know Elder Black and I have work that the Lord has planned for us to handle. This is why earlier I said that, "I feel like the Lord has taken me under his wing." I can't wait to serve out there. I was about 50 feet from Elder Uchdorf. His talk was awesome. I'm a little disappointed that I haven't got a letter from you guys. Jason sent me one my second day! Tiffany and Michele sent candy and stuff. OF COURSE Tiffany's card was a little wild. ha-ha, Ask her about it. If you use www.dearelder.com I should get the letter either the same day or next day... So use it! I don't miss you guys yet. I came across an awesome scripture in personal study. I love you guys, but I'm not homesick. Read Luke 9. The last 2 verses. I think it was that. It should talk about a plow. Well, I'm off to the Chiropractor. It's free by the way. MTC insurance covers it, so no need to worry. Here's some Latvian by memory. Es zinu ka, musu Debesu Tevs mus mil. Mes esam brali un Masas. Jus esat Dieva berns un es esmu dieva berns. Mes tev Patecamies par sveti Raksti. Mes tevs Patei camies par Dzosefs Smits. Es zinu ka vini provietis. Jezus Kristu Varda. Amen Love, Elder Haub
