I've failed terribly on updating this site this year. I really intended to do more. This will be my last post before Aaron returns. in approximately 41 hours. He is an example to us all. Despite his fears and challenges, he fulfilled an honorable mission. WE LOVE YOU AARON!!!!!! Posted by: Mom Date: December 7, 2008

During Hurricane Fay I noticed that it had stalled so Thomasville was in the dirty side. I was thinking about emailing or even calling Philip when I noticed a friend request on facbook by someone from Thomasville. It was the bishop's wife. Aaron was actually at their house. He and the other elders were playing in the rain, and she took pictures and posted them on her page on facebook. If you want a link, send me an email. I'm not sure how to get it on here. I'm really sorry I haven't posted anything for a while. Benjamin has started his mission here in Las Vegas, and has had a couple of recent hospitalizations, so I have been very lax in my posting. Aaron has gotten really close to Philip. He's able to speak one on one with him because Philip exercises with the 4 elders and he and Aaron walk much faster than the other guys. They do stay in sight of the other guys, but they are trailing behind and panting while Aaron and Philip talk. Philip said he really values Aaron's opinion. Posted by: Mom Date: August 14, 2008

Aaron's 21st Birthday was thursday, and we had supper with Philip Faulk from Thomasville. He was here for a convention, and coincidentally we were able to eat with him on Aaron's birthday. We also learned that he isn't a member. He is being taught by Aaron and his comp. Posted by: Mom Date: June 1, 2008

The day after transfers we got a phone call from Brother Phillip Faulk from Thomasville, GA. He informed us that Aaron had transferred there, and filled us in a little bit on his comp and the other Elders there. He said also that their service that they do each week is at the Hospital. Aaron will be driving the golf carts at the hospital transporting people. He has to wear khaki pants and a hospital shirt. Brother Faulk will be here in a couple of weeks, and he's bringing pictures. We will be going to dinner with him, or as they say in the south Supper. Posted by: Mom Date: May 19, 2008

I got some great pictures of the elders, the house, and the street they live on, which is the main street in Thomasville. There is a 4 block area of Broad Street that is the business district, then a huge park (roughly 45 acres), then the block where the elders live, which begins the residential area of Broad Street. It is a very old town, 1824, and still very Southern in manners and outlook, with beautiful old homes. Posted by: From Brother Faulk Date: May 18, 2008

Exerpt from email Oct. 29. This last week we had Zone Meeting and it was good. We are starting to work with Basil’s wife Nicole, when we were first teaching Basil she was not to nice to us, she would bring up old anti, and we would resolve it. Basil has been looking for a job for a while now, he just found one after he became a member so that is a good blessing for him and his family, but the bad part of it is he has a weird schedule. He works nights mostly and 12 hour days, or nights every once in a while, but the pay is good and he needs it. They are going to move soon, I think they said that they wanted to stay in the same ward, there are two here in Warner Robins and one down in Pery, which is close. Nicole has come to church once or twice and she is opening up to us coming over. We are trying to start a Spanish group around Warner Robins for the Spanish people, and I am starting to pick up some Spanish.
Exerpt from email May 29. His birthday. I had to edit a little bit because some were answers to questions that didn't make sense without the question.
" I haven't been asked to speak in church, sort of not really they asked me to bear my testimony. The ward is a good size umm here it is 4 elders for the ward in a regular size building.
We teach mostly firsts if we can teach them at all they don't keep commitments down here very well"
He is also letting more of himself show through. He fixed the dryer. He bought a voltmeter, and is fixing everything in sight.

We are working on strengthening this ward, trying to people to start doing their hometeching, we are around 11% but we are helping it go up. Last Saturday they had a canning thing with the RS. And we helped a little on Friday when some were at the church getting a head start on the canning and we were there typing up the ward mission plan. It is a good ward mission plan and should put it into effect in our ward, but change the numbers on it. We got the idea for it from President Evanson, who got it from Elder Perry, so it will work, I don’t know if they are starting it in our ward, I think this mission is testing it out with some other missions. Aaron has been in Dublin longer than any area in his mission. Elder O'Rullian who requested Aaron to be his comp told us that it is a very difficult area, and his Mom told us that they almost closed the area, and now Aaron is there, and he isn't complaining at all about it being difficult. He sent a great email recently, and if I do this right it will be my next post. Posted by: Mom Date: May 5, 2008

I have sort of neglected this site, but I am here now and my mind is full of stuff that I've been told about Aaron by 2 of his comps who came home a week and a half ago. Elder O'Rullian, from Bakersfield told us that he requested to serve with Aaron before he went home. He said that Aaron taught him a lot. He couldn't expound much, but he said that Aaron knew before he left that he would be expected to talk to people, and even though he would rather die than talk to people some times, he is out there trying his hardest, and not giving up just because it's difficult. He also told a great story about a time when they were at a dinner appointment with a less active family, and a young boy in the family was playing with a remote control car when it crashed and quit working. When the parents said that they would have to throw it away, Aaron pulled out a Benzomatic torch and Cold heat, and proceeded right then and there to fix the car. He also spoke in church the last sunday of the year, and his comp said he was very proud of him. Elder Clinton from Las Vegas was one of his comps in Warner Robins. They had a great connection with eachother that started when they first knew that they were both from vegas. He was telling how Aaron was given a challenge of how he would get where he needed to go when his derailer on his bicycle had broken clean off, and they needed to get somewhere that next day. They had been gentlemen and let the sisters use their car because their car had been used the limit, and the sisters were ripping their dresses on the bikes. Aaron braided a rope one day so that it could be used as a tow strap between bicycles. People around town noticed, and remembered the missionaries from that one day that they were a bit of a spectacle around town. Posted by: Mom Date: January 21, 2008

I am in the same apartment that I was in when I first came here to Georgia but I will go back to Warner Robins on Thursday. On Saturday I baptized Basil Frederick (sp?) Davis III in Warner Robins that was the only way I could be there was to baptize him I guess. It is starting to get colder here in Georgia, it’s around the 70’s during the day and the 50’s earlier in the day and sometimes at night -Elder Spendlove
Ps. There are pictures, one before the baptism and one after. Posted by: from Aaron\'s email Date: October 15, 2007

It looks like Warner Robins was a nice restful area for Aaron. And by restful I don't mean they didn't work. They had a baptism and there was teaching going on, he just seemed more himself like the pressure wasn't so severe, and he was enjoying the work. When he says "hopefully" about Macon I believe it means that he wants to be in a threesome so that he doesn't feel pressured to speak. I pray that he will feel the spirit so strong that he will begin speaking and be so comfortable doing it that he won't even notice that he is speaking. Posted by: Mom Date: October 1, 2007

I am in Macon again, this time for no more than three weeks hopefully. An Elder had to go home because of health, and I was close, in a threesome and knew the area, so I got chosen to come back here. I am companions with Elder Schaat, he is from Manan,(sp) Idaho. We had a Spanish baptism on Saturday in warner robins his name is hector. Posted by: from Aaron's email Date: October 1, 2007

Aaron is now in a 3 Elder Companionship with ZLs. He needed to recuperate from a meltdown caused by being pressured to do things dyslexia makes difficult. Posted by: old news Date: October 1, 2007
|
After Aaron and his comp had flu-like symptoms for a couple of weeks they went on splits with other elders who were told to push them a little. They didn't know about dyslexia and it backfired . Posted by: old news Date: August 12, 2007

Aaron lives right next to the Augusta Municipal Golf Course where the Augusta National Tournaments are held. They share a car with 4 other Elders who don't live with them (I think) When they don't have the car he still doesn't bike because there's a guy in the ward who lets them borrow his golf cart. How's that for different missionary transportation? Posted by: old news Date: July 30, 2007

Yesterday we were walking around and
introducing Elder Teare to All members that live close to us because we didn't
have the car last week. And walking from one to another there was this drunk guy
that just came up and talked to us, he didn't like Elder Teare as much as he
did me. He put his arm around me and kept shaking my hand. After a while I had
to tell him we had an appointment to go to (I think he wanted us to go to his
house right then {and he said not too many people get invited to his house} he
was really drunk). He had a mostly eaten roasted chicken in his hand the kind
you buy from the store. I miss not
being able to hold little kids, and I miss technology, and you know I miss you

I am so mad at myself!! I just realized that when I accidentally erased all of the messages on the answering machine that the ones from Aaron on Mother's Day were on there. It was so sweet to hear him calling and saying that he knew we wouldn't be there. I guess that's sort of how he felt when he called and the generic voice was on there instead of our voices.

I talked to Aaron's mission pres. after getting an email of 5 lines in which he had said 3 times that he was either confused or he forgot something. After the bug bites (I got eaten, too) I was researching West Nile Virus because his Brother-in-law Brandon, got it last year, and it said to seek medical attention if there was any confusion. His mission pres said he still isn't doing his share of the teaching. Just as I was getting ready to email him with advice on how to talk more I was told about a lesson in RS today in Aunt Linda's ward that quoted Brigham Young, he would "rather hear an Elder...speak only five words accompanied by the power of God...than to hear long sermons without the Spirit." After that I couldn't advise him to talk more. Posted by: Mom Date: July 8, 2007

I got eaten to death (almost) by bugs, I must not have
much of grandpas blood in me(7 on one leg and 4 on the other, we were
helping a member with their yard work. Posted by: his email Date: July 8, 2007

Some of these posts will seem out of order when I cut and paste from the main page to make more room--//Aaron of course is a young man of few words, but we see that he is working hard to overcome his fear of speaking. They teach 15-20 lessons a week. Posted by: Date: June 18, 2007

Aaron had no companion for a couple of days so he had to stay with some other Elders. Aaron got a new companion on Thursday and Elder Templeman went home on Tuesday. Posted by: Date: June 18, 2007

Aaron called home 8 times on Mother's Day! He knew we wouldn't be home during church he was just getting impatient so he talked to our answering machine a few times. Then his (trunky)district leader gave him permission to call his sister. Posted by: Mom Date: June 18, 2007

Aaron also requested the sign language dictionary we have at home in order to try to communicate with a deaf man in his first area who was hoping there were sign language missionaries available for him. Posted by: Mom Date: May 31, 2007

If anyone wants to send Aaron a message, just click above where it says "Write Letter" it should let you do it for free. If not just email me. There's a link at the bottom of the main page with Aaron's picture on it. Posted by: Mom Date: May 16, 2007
