Q:
I need instructions on how to write a letter to my missionary? How can I find instructions on how mail reaches a particular mission?
A:
Select the mission you wish to write to on our home page. Then click "Instructions". There you will find detailed instructions for writing to any mission or MTC. |
Q:
What is your delivery schedule like for the MTC and what time of day will my missionary receive his package/letter?
A:
Our daily cut off time for letters and packages to the MTC is 12 noon Mountain Standard Time, and deliveries are made every afternoon Monday through Friday. We do not deliver on Saturdays. Orders and letters received after 12 noon on Friday afternoons will be taken the following business day. We are closed on National Holidays and Utah State Holidays.
Only district leaders are allowed to check the mail at the MTC. They usually do this twice a day- once in the morning and once in the evening on the way to dinner. Our packages and letters are delivered in the early afternoon, so we think most of our deliveries are received on the way to dinner. |

Q:
How can I make a contribution to www.DearElder.com? Can I make a contribution by check?
A:
Click on "Make a Donation" in the left column. If you would like to send a contribution by mail, the address is:
DearElder.com
333 W. 200 S.

Q:
Is there a limit to how many letters can be sent?
A:
We don't have a limit to the number of letters one person may send to a missionary. However, please do not send conference talks, ensign articles, or multiple pages of sports scores through DearElder, as this will affect our ability to continue this free service. We reserve the right to not deliver the letters of customers who abuse our free letter-writing service. |
Q:
Do I have to make a donation to be able to use DearElder.com?
A:
No, donations are completely optional and we will send your letters regardless of whether you have made a donation or not. |
Q:
Can you give me the address to my missionary's mission home?
A:
We are unable to give out any mission address information through this site. You can find out addresses to individual mission homes by calling the Church's missionary department at 1-801-240-2222. |
Q:
I am trying to find the missionary who taught me the discussions. Can you help me find him/her?
A:
We don't have any information as to the location of returned missionaries. Sorry! |
Q:
Can my missionary respond to my letters through DearElder.com?
A:
DearElder.com is set up to make it easier for you to reach your missionary, but missionaries can not use DearElder.com to write home. Missionaries currently in the MTC, most domestic missions, and some foreign missions, get 30 minutes of e-mail time a week to write home. We suggest that you write your missionaries through us so that when their P-day comes and they have access to a computer, they are not spending the whole half hour reading your mail. If they already have your letters in hand, they can spend that whole time writing home to you! |
Q:
I want to write my missionary but I don't know what mission he/she is serving in. How can I find out?
A:
Sorry but we don't have any information about the location of different missionaries. You should contact the missionary's family members to find out. |
Q:
Do your letters get to the missionaries faster than they would had they been sent through normal mail?
A:
DearElder pouch letters will always get to your missionary as fast or faster than if you were to send the letters through normal mail. Provo MTC letters will arrive same day. Other missions letters are sent through the U.S. Postal Service daily in Provo UT |
Q:
Are the letters private or are they sent in "post card" format?
A:
The letters sent by www.DearElder.com are sent privately.
Stateside letters and non-pouch international letters are each enclosed in their own envelope.
Pouch letters and MTC letters are all tri-folded and tabbed closed.
No one but your missionary will be reading the letter that you write. |
Q:
Can my missionary see my address when I write him a letter? Or do I need to write it in the body of my message?
A:
When you fill out all of the empty blanks before submitting a letter, whatever information you put for your return address will appear that same way in your missionary's letter. There is no need to put it in your message. |
Q:
I was typing a long letter to my missionary, and accidentally hit a button that made my letter disappear. Is there any possible way to retrieve my letter?
A:
No. Letters that have disappeared before being submitted do not show up in our database. To avoid this inconvenience, we recommend writing your letter in a word processor, such as Microsoft Word or Word Perfect, and then pasting your message into our site once you are finished writing. This is the best way to avoid losing your letters. |
Q:
How does pouch mail work?
A:
The Church offers a free mail delivery service called "pouch mail" for letters to missionaries serving in countries where regular mail services are not reliable. Each week, they send one box of letters to each pouch mission office, with aims for more successful, timely letter delivery.
Pouch mail is sent out every Monday, but letters must be submitted by noon the previous Thursday to get into the Monday batch.
We print the pouch letters that you write through our site for free, and send them weekly to the church's pouch mail department. They, then, are responsible for sending the letters to your missionary.
DearElder.com is able to meet all of the Church's new pouch requirements.
This service is for letters only, and does not apply to packages.
Missions not part of the pouch system can also receive letters from our site. Sending letters to non-pouch missions requires you to set up an account and make a deposit, from which only the cost of postage is deducted for each letter.

Q:
Why am I not getting confirmation E-mails?
A:
The reason that confirmation e-mails are not going into your inbox is because they are being blocked by SPAM filters. There are two ways to possibly fix this. You can add us to your contact list so that our emails can get through, or you can check for the confirmations in your SPAM folder. |
