Mormon Missionaries - What They Teach
Mormon missionaries teach basic principles and doctrines of The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When they are invited into
a non-members home they will teach a series of discussions that focus
on the Church and their beliefs.
God – Our Heavenly Father
The church teaches that God is literally the spirit Father of all
people. That people are created in His image and that He has a body of
flesh and bones. Mormon missionaries teach that loves each person and wants them to return to live with Him.
Faith in Jesus Christ
The cornerstone of the Mormon Church
is Jesus Christ. A Mormon missionary will share their testimony of the
divinity of the Savior. Having faith in Jesus Christ means that a
person will follow Him and try to become like Him.
Repentance
An important part of life is repentance. Without the gift of
repentance no one could return to our Heavenly Father. Mormon
missionaries teach that people can be forgiven of their sins and become
clean through the power of the Atonement.
Baptism
Baptism is the key to enter the gates of heaven. Mormon missionaries use the baptism of Jesus as an example of the importance of baptism by immersion.
Prayer
Prayer is mans way to communicate with God. Mormon missionaries
often teach investigators how to pray. Non-members are encouraged to
pray and ask if the Church is true.
Book of Mormon
The Book of Mormon
is another testament of Jesus Christ. It was translated by the power of
God by the prophet Joseph Smith. The Book of Mormon testifies of
Christ, His divinity, and His commandments.
Restoration of the Gospel
Mormon missionaries will testify that the gospel was restored through the prophet Joseph Smith.
When he was fourteen he saw God the Father and Jesus Christ in a
vision. They told him that the true church was no longer upon the
earth. Later the Mormon Church was organized under the direction of
Christ and now has over 13 million members worldwide.
Latter-day Prophets
A prophet today, Gordon B. Hinckley,
leads the Mormon Church. The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, the same
organization that Christ set up, assists him. These latter-day prophets
receive revelation from Christ to guide and direct the Church.
Eternal Families
Through sealing ordinances performed in Mormon temples
members can be sealed to their families. This sealing ordinance creates
a family bond that lasts not only for this life, but also for eternity.
