In his first letter from the MTC, John wrote the following brief testimony in the spanish he has learned so far: "Sho se que JesuCristo es un hijo de Dios. Sho se que Jose Smith es un profeta de Dios y tradujo el Libro de Mormon. El Libro de Mormon es verdad."
In a subsequent letter all his "SHO" were changed to "YO" which is spanish for "I" (apparently Y sounds like SH in some countries, including Argentina)
Neat Story:
On Friday we went and the font ready for Hugo´s baptism. It was actually a first for me in the fact that the baptism was actually early. We sat around waiting for 45 minutes for a member of the bishopric to show and finally we got so tired of waiting that we just started without them. We only had one family from the ward and then all of the missionaries from the zone. It was so cool because I got to baptize him. Afterward in the font he gave me a huge hug and said, "Thank you so much, I´m clean now because of you" i wanted to correct him about how he´s clean because of Christ and all that but I didn´t want to spoil the spirit that he was feeling.
On Sunday we went to church and confirmed Hugo a member of the church. Elder ***** confirmed and once again when he said, "recíbe el espiritu santo" (recieve the Holy Ghost) I got the chill that started at my head and went through my whole body. We then had the opportunity to attend a devotional of the temple president of the Buenos Aires temple and how he wanted to encourage the members to go to the temple and to take part in the baptisms. He pointed to President Olsen and said that the missionaries who are under his authority baptize and open the doors to the Celestial kingdom, he then said that it is the same for every baptism that happens in the temple. The temple president continued to say that these are our brothers and sister who are in spirit prison and everytime someone is baptised another soul is freed from that prison. Think of the joy in that one soul who can now progress and move on. He then concluded with the fact that it is our sacred honor to free them and that no amount of time spent on a bus, or money it takes can compare to the joy that is felt over one soul that comes back to the father throught the temple. I had a little tear at my eye and I wanted to go the temple.
