Neat Story:
As for my spiritual thought, it goes right along with what is going on back
home. Last night, my companion and I were contacting late at night because our bus got back earlier than expected from where we had harvested. We were walking by this parking lot and we say a women laying on the ground and there has a woman staNding over her and a man sitting on a bench not to far from the women. The man asked for us to come help and so we came over to see what we could do. They were all drunk, and the woman on the ground was so drunk that she was lying on the ground in her own puck. It was not a pretty sight. They asked us to help move her to the bench. I'll admit I was very reluctant to help given the fact she was covered in puck and I had on some not to cheap clothing and zone conference is tomorrow so I wouldn't have time to dry clean it. But, my companion took off his palto and suit jacket and sacrificed by saying he would do it. I was very grateful for this and they moved the women to the bench. Luckily my companion had some purell in his bag to use and he used it and the other lady that was there that wasn't falling over. We then were trying to explain who we are and the lady then was demanding that we recite the catholic prayer(I can't remember what it is called in english). Of course I don't know it and that is not how we pray, so I told her that we pray with our own words. I then said I could offer a prayer and started to pray. To my great astonishment I suddenly get slapped on the head by the woman AS I AM PRAYING. The man that was there was much more courteous and was holding her back. He apologized, but the other woman began yelling about how to Russians we didn't have faith and that
our church was wrong, she even gave "the fig", which is like flipping someone off here, to my companion. Somewhat flustered but doing all that I could to keep my cool, I said that we would go now and said goodbye and we left. I think there are things to be learned from this story which are particularly applicable now. My companion and I, although we did a kind act of service, received nothing but
hate in return. However, we must always remain calm and not retaliate. It took a
lot of will power to not just go off on the woman, but that isn't what Christ
would have us do. We must love those that curse us and even though they say
false, hurtful things, we cannot let this deter us from the correct course.
I am so grateful to be hated for the name of Christ. Although this sounds weird, I know that God is seeing how far I will go in holding to this faith. It builds character and in the end we know that it will come to solidify our faith that Jesus is our Savior.
